3 Signs Your Tires Need To Be Replaced

Abigail Hayes

If your tires are getting older, you may wonder if it's time to replace them. While it's always a good idea to ditch old tires, there are some signs you can look for that help you determine when exactly your tires need to go. Check out these three signs so you know when to get new tires.

Worn Tread

One of the most obvious signs you need new tires is that the tread is worn. The tread are the deep grooves in the surface of the tire. They help your tires grip the road, so you are less likely to slip or slide in poor weather, including rain. This tread is worn down naturally over time, but once the tire gets too smooth, you need new wheels. Today, most tires have wear bars, which are used to alert you and your mechanic to the need for new tires. These are important because you never want to wait until your tires are bald to replace them. Even though the treads may still look deep, your tires may be in serious need of replacement to protect you.

Cracks and Bulges

Cracks that form on the sidewall of your tire are easy to spot, which is good because they are a sign you need to replace your tires. Typically, you can see this type of damage with the naked eye just by looking. These cracks are signs that your tire is developing a leak, which could lead to a full blowout. Bulges are another warning sign to watch for. These happen when the tire weakens from a slow leak or low tire pressure. The tire begins to bulge at one side, which significantly increase the risk of a blowout while driving.

Vibration

Even if you barely look at your tires, you can still tell if they need to be replaced. When you're driving your car, pay attention to any abnormal vibrations. You may feel vibrations or thumping under your seat, which could mean one or more of the tires need attention. Another place to watch for is the steering wheel. When holding the steering wheel, if it vibrates, you may have a problem with your car's suspension. Either way, it's a good time to get your tires checked.

Don't ignore your tires just because they haven't burst yet. Bald and worn tires are extremely dangerous and must be replaced immediately. About Me
Understanding Wheel Choices

I didn't used to understand why everyone chose different tires for their cars, but about a year ago, I started paying more attention. It occurred to me that there were a few types of wheels and tires that were right for different weather conditions, and so it was really interesting to have them put on my car. I realized that it really did keep my car more stable on the road in inclement weather, and I was really impressed with how much of a difference it made. This website is here to help people to know which wheels are right for their car.
